University College student Cheryl Vertefeuille '21 will accomplish a life goal when she graduates next Saturday with a Bachelor's Degree in Technology, Leadership, and Management: “It's been a long time coming. I feel relief, excitement, and joy.”

At Commencement, Vertefeuille will be wearing a stole that says "First Generation,” with her two teenagers in the audience as she proudly walks across the stage.

A Personal Goal Accomplished: "It's been a goal of mine since I graduated high school to get a college degree. It's something I wanted to complete for me, not just for my career. Not to get a better job or make more money, but for a sense of accomplishment."

Lifelong Learning: "I have two teenagers, 14 and 16. I wanted them to see the struggle that sometimes you have to go through. Even when my classes were hard, I never stopped believing I could reach my goal. I hope that they see that it's never too late and learning is a lifelong lesson."

Diverse Fields, People at RWU: "Because I've worked for the Navy, I know a number of military members who followed the path. There are many different fields at , and there also is diversity within the college itself. That was very appealing to me. It's not just a one-stop shop. You get to meet people from all walks of life, as well as a diverse group of people."

Vertefeuille is from Hope Valley, R.I.
