Career Communications Assistant

Job Description

The Career Communications Assistant is a key student leadership role within the Center for Career & Professional Development (CCPD). As part of the Student Relations Team, you’ll work closely with Career Advisors to support the professional development of your peers through 1:1 advising, workshops, classroom presentations, and campus events. You’ll also help share student success stories by writing blog posts highlighting students who have secured jobs and internships as part of the CCPD’s "Hawks Hired" series. This role is ideal for students who are confident communicators, comfortable with public speaking, strong writers, and excited to represent the CCPD across campus.

Primary Responsibilities

Career Advising, Presentation, and Communication

  • Facilitate 1:1 advising appointments with students, covering topics like resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, job and internship searches, and Handshake navigation.
  • Deliver presentations in classrooms, workshops, and campus events to promote career development resources.
  • Specialize in a key area such as interview preparation, social media presence, public speaking, or event outreach based on your strengths and interests.
  • Review and respond to resume submissions and career lab emails in a professional and timely manner.
  • Write short blog posts for the CCPD’s "Hawks Hired" series, profiling students who have recently accepted jobs or internships, showcasing their career paths and advice.

Leadership and Campus Engagement

  • Serve as a visible leader across the RWU campus, building connections with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Conduct targeted outreach to students and faculty within assigned academic schools, promoting CCPD programs and services.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor — this is a highly visible leadership position representing the CCPD.
  • Actively engage with the campus community; this role is suited for students who are outgoing, team-oriented, and energized by connecting with others.

Team Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings, contributing to discussions and taking notes when needed.
  • Work closely with a supervising Career Advisor for 1:1 mentorship and skills development based on your specialization area.
  • Collaborate with fellow Career Communications Assistants and the CCPD staff to support outreach initiatives and special projects.
